Directed by Ken Loach, is a political thriller about British terrorism in Northern Ireland that includes the assassination of an American civil rights lawyer.
The Innocent (1993)
The film takes place in 1950s Berlin at the height of the Cold War and centres around the joint CIA/MI6 real-life Operation Gold: building a tunnel under the Russian sector of Berlin.
Mute Witness (1994)
A 1994 thriller/horror shot in Moscow, Russia written, directed and produced by Anthony Waller. Although made in 1994, it was not released in the USA until the fall of 1995 (with the UK not seeing it till the following year). Known for having Alec Guinness in cameo as a Mystery Guest Star along with a mostly European cast.
Following (1998)
A 1998 British neo-noir film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It tells the story of a young man who follows strangers around the streets of London and is drawn into a criminal underworld when he fails to keep his distance.
His debut film, it was designed to be as inexpensive as possible to make: scenes were heavily rehearsed so that just one or two takes were needed, thus economising on 16 mm film stock, the production's greatest expense, and for which Nolan was paying from his salary. Without expensive professional lighting equipment, Nolan mostly used available light. Apart from providing the script and direction, Nolan also did the photography, editing and production himself. The film has an unusual, non-linear plot structure which has been a feature in several of Nolan's films.
Edge of Darkness (2010)
A 2010 film adaptation of the 1985 BBC television series of the same name. The film stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone, and is directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Michael Wearing, who also directed and produced the series respectively. This film is Mel Gibson's first screen lead since Signs which was released nearly eight years earlier in 2002.
Edge of Darkness follows a detective (Gibson) investigating the murder of his activist daughter (Bojana Novakovic), while uncovering political conspiracies and cover-ups in the process.
In the US, Argentina, and on DVD in Australia and the UK, the film is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
